Two for the Road

The great HENRY MANCINI wrote the music to the song, “Two for the Road,” for the 1967 British comedy drama of the same name. For his work on the original score, Mancini received a Golden Globe nomination, one of many accolades he received throughout his legendary musical career.

Starring Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn, this film takes place during their road trip through Southern France and explores the highs and lows of the romance between the two.

As a singer myself, I adore this tune and its lovely sentiment. I chose this song for track #5 on my album, Yesterday Once More, because I love singing the swoons and swells that bring waves of nostalgia for all listeners. The highly-esteemed composer and lyricist Leslie Bricusse wrote the sweet, heartfelt lyrics to this tune, which I've included a portion of below.

Two for the road,

We'll travel through the years,

Collecting precious memories,

Selecting souvenirs

And living life the way we please.

When you love someone for years and years, the adventure is all in the journey. Exploring the many roads that life brings – together – really is something special. Whether sun or rain, life becomes more beautiful every day when you’ve got your best friend by your side! This song captures that feeling so perfectly in just under three minutes.
