Whenever I hear the song, “Yesterday Once More” by The Carpenters, I’m transported back to the days dancing at the disco! I spent the 1970s in and out all the most popular disco clubs in Los Angeles – boy, was it fun! I’ve always loved dancing – it’s one of my favorite parts of performing on stage. Learning the steps and swinging to the beat has been a way of life for me for years.
The Carpenters got their start in 1965 and soon after had their first hit singles, “They Long to Be” and “We’ve Only Just Begun.” In fact, I sang the song, “We’ve Only Just Begun” at my own wedding!
During their 14-year career, The Carpenters recorded ten albums, along with numerous singles and several television specials. Such a remarkable duo, don’t you think? The 1970s would not have been the same without them. Sadly, Karen Carpenter suffered from anorexia nervosa, and she passed away from heart failure brought on by complications of the disease in 1983.
If only it were yesterday once again! I wish I could see Karen Carpenter up on stage, shining for her audience one more time. This song brings a wave of nostalgia every time I hear it, and the lyrics, which I’ve included below, resonate with me so very deeply.
The music of The Carpenters is truly timeless and lives on today. I love their music so much that I titled the name of my album, “Yesterday Once More” in tribute to The Carpenters. The theme for my album was quickly born. As you can see, I’ve included all of yesterday’s most popular songs into my album, and made sure to include my fans’ top favorites!

Yesterday Once More
Written by John Bettis, Richard Lynn Carpenter
When I was young I'd listen to the radio
Waitin' for my favorite songs
When they played I'd sing along, it made me smile
Those were such happy times and not so long ago
How I wondered where they'd gone
But they're back again just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-o-wo-o, still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling, that they're startin' to sing's, so fine
When they get to the part
Where he's breakin' her heart
It can really make me cry, just like before
It's yesterday once more
Lookin' back on how it was in years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad, so much has changed.
It was songs of love that I would sing to then
And I'd memorize each word
Those old melodies still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-o-wo-o, still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling, that they're startin' to sing's so fine
All my best memories come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry, just like before
It's yesterday once more
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-o-wo-o, still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling, that they're startin' to sing's so fine
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-o-wo-o, still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
