My Shining Hour

“My Shining Hour” was composed by Harold Arlen with lyrics by Johnny Mercer for the film, The Sky’s the Limit in 1943. Originally performed by Glen Gray with Eugenie Baird,“My Shining Hour” is a song that has endured for generations.

I included it as track 14 on my album, Yesterday Once More”for this very reason. It’s truly a timeless piece filled with soulful yearning and passion.

I always think of my fans when I perform this tune on stage or in the recording booth because my fans make me feel alive! There’s nothing quite like the sound of a roaring applause or seeing a standing ovation after I sing. I truly feel like a shining star when I perform this song!

The lyrics go: “This moment, this minute and each second in it, will leave a glow upon the sky, and as time goes by, it will never die…” This tune has a natural ability to capture time as if the moment were to last forever.

The fact that this tune has been recorded by the best of the best in music is a further testament to emotional affect this song holds. Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Liza Minnelli, Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee and Barbra Streisand have all recorded their own renditions of this notable classic. That’s why I knew I had to include it on my album – I adore these musicians!

This song is a perfect representation of the culmination of all the hard work and dedication that it takes to give an outstanding performance, whether on stage or while recording a record. I put every bit of my heart, sweat and tears into the performances I give, so that my audience will enjoy the music as much as possible! I am so very passionate about giving it my absolute best performance, every single time.

“My Shining Hour” is placed at the end of my album since it is such a beautiful way to close. “This will be my shining hour, ‘til I’m with you again!” And it’s true! The sentiment is one I always want to leave my fans with. The everlasting beauty of music is that it will keep on going for as long as we continue to press play.
