Le Jazz Hot

An exciting number from the film Victor/Victoria, “Le Jazz Hot” was originally performed by Julie Andrews in 1982 and later on in 1995 when it was released as a Broadway musical. The eccentric performance was choreographed by Katherine Dunham and was used to inspire many future performances. Written by the notable Henry Mancini, "Le Jazz Hot" is filled with fun and sizzle!

I’ve included my version of this catchy song on my album, Yesterday Once More, to celebrate the musical talents of both Julie Andrews and Henry Mancini. I personally enjoy the flow of the tune and how it dramatically transitions from a sultry and slow intro and picks up a loud and vibrant chorus. This works its way into a masterpiece of an outro that’s made even more captivating by the unique angles and setting.

Did you know that this popular tune was also showcased on the hit TV show, Glee? The character Kurt Hummel sings a "duet" with himself by performing both the male and female parts of the original song. This tune is FUN and LIVELY, truly a testament to the composer, Henry Mancini's many talents!

I absolutely adore how such a mesmerizing song could tell the story of jazz, a legendary genre itself. The lyrics to “Le Jazz Hot” tell the tale of a ‘lady’ who discovered jazz and fell in love with it, and as if that doesn’t give it away, then maybe I should mention that I, too, am hopelessly in love with jazz! That’s why this song speaks to me in a way like no other.

The chorus is well-written and exudes an easygoing tone that’s relaxed but dynamic at the same time. Every time I hear the song, it’s almost as if I’m on the edge of my seat, just waiting for the bass to pick up while Andrews’ unforgettable performance plays in my mind. There’s no other song like it, and I feel like it’s one of the best tunes to perform at parties.

It’s also one of the audience’s favorites, one that they can’t seem to get enough of! There’s a certain timeless authenticity to the lyrics and theme of the song, and that’s what I feel makes it so entertaining to perform and listen.

I made an effort to recreate the same mood and sing with the same passion, so as to pay tribute to the talented composers and performers who made “Le Jazz Hot” possible. You can enjoy my rendition of “Le Jazz Hot” and many other songs by ordering my album, Yesterday Once More, at the links below.
