Jazz Songs That Make It Feel Like Spring

Spring is just around the corner, and we all know what that means: it’s about time to say goodbye to those winter blues and say hello to a beautiful blossoming new season. With spring almost here, the best way to get yourself in the mood for warmer temperatures is with some good old jazz.

Let the voices of some of the greatest jazz singers who ever lived touch your soul and really get you off your feet. These jazz songs make any day feel like spring.

1. Louis Armstrong – What A Wonderful World

Is there a better way that you can start the season than with one of the best jazz songs ever, sung by one of the greatest singers ever? What a wonderful world explores the natural beauty of the world in its first verse: “I see trees of green,” followed by “red roses too.” The song is also about spring and the beauty that comes with this incredible season as he sings further, “I see them bloom for me and you.” And while the lyrics are certainly beautiful, it’s Louis’ performance that really touches the soul.

2. Steve Allen – This Could Be The Start Of Something Big

As an incredibly popular song by Steve Allen, "This Could Be the Start of Something Big" was originally sung at a late night show all the way back in 1958. The song became such a massive hit in fact that he instantly adopted it as the main song for his late night show, and NBC also used it at the start of other shows. Although the song itself is not about spring and the wonderful season, the upbeat tune and the cheerful performance by Steve Allen makes it one of the best songs for spring.

I also covered this song in my debut album, "Yesterday Once More." If you are looking for a unique spin on the original song, be sure to check out my album here.

3. Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - April in Paris

This list would simply be incomplete without two of the biggest singers in jazz history. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong came together to give a beautiful performance of the song, "April in Paris." The song is considerably slower than your average song about spring, but is just as beautiful.

The light piano in the background compliments Ella’s beautiful voice and makes for one of her best performances. And as soon as the drums kick in, Louis starts to sink in with a deep and heart-touching voice that makes this song one of the best.

4. Doris Day - Blue Skies

Doris Day is also an incredibly talented singer that sang one of the best jazz spring songs out there, Blue Skies. The song starts off with an incredibly catchy trumpet and drums duet that lends itself nicely to Doris Day’s beautiful voice. The lyrics to the song are smile-inducing, and the good feeling you get from this song is simply infectious.

These are some of the best jazz songs that can help you get ready for spring. Each song is beautiful in its own right and embodies the joy of spring perfectly!

Enjoy the springtime spirit with music from my album.

With Love, Maggy
